Why introducing hydroxyl group on fullerenes:
The purpose of introducing hydroxyl group on fullerenes is to increase the water solubility of fullerene. However, fullerol is water soluble only when the number of hydroxyl groups reaches a certain value. Generally, when the number of hydroxyl groups reaches 20 or more, the water solubility is good. Fullerol is insoluble in acetone and methanol and soluble in DMF. Chemical properties are similar to fullerene.
